Crack Injections for Basement Leaks – Windsor, Leamington
Causes and Types of Cracks
Basement wall cracks can be caused by the settling and shifting of your home, hydro-static pressure, foundation movement, shrinkage, and thermal stress. Generally, the cracks appear as vertical, diagonal, and horizontal.
• Vertical wall cracks are the least worrisome. They are usually non-structural and are caused by settling or shrinkage. They are easy to fix.
• Diagonal wall cracks are a little more worrisome because they indicate differential settlement that can lead to serious structural issues. With differential settlement the foundation is moving in two different directions, causing both vertical and horizontal tension.
• Horizontal wall cracks signify serious structural problems. These types of cracks are developed when heavy pressure of different sorts force the wall to bow inward and develop a mid-height horizontal crack.
Serious Structural Problems
In many cases concrete crack injections can fix many crack related problems. The cause and severity of the crack(s) will determine the type of product and solution we select. In some cases, other repair methods may be necessary in addition to crack injection, like wall plates and earth anchors, steel I-beam reinforcements, wall straightening, and block wall rebuilding.
